The New Robocop Suit Revealed! - Behind the scenes photos of Joel Kinnaman wearing a new, sleeker version of the iconic suit. - Jose Padilha's remake of Robocop won't hit theaters until August 9, 2013, but you don't have to wait that long to see the redesign of the iconic Robocop costume. Behind the scenes pictures from the production, which began today, reveal Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") in a new, gun metal grey version of the original costume. As you can see in this photograph (courtesy of Coming Soon, which has more photographs available), it's less bulky than the original version, and although the classic visor has been preserved it's now a red stripe across a translucent face plate.
These kinds of photographs are always exciting but can also be misleading. It seems unlikely that this is the full version of the costume, which may go through different permutations in the film and may also be altered in post-production to include CGI elements. But this certainly gives us our first look of what Jose Padilha is going for from a design perspective, and we don't dislike it. It looks more maneuverable than before, which seems more plausible in modern sci-fi than the clunky, tank-like version from Paul Verhoeven's original film. ( craveonline )
